Mission: The International Women’s Club of Belgrade, through the activities of the Charity Committee, works to meet the needs of vulnerable and marginalized populations in Serbia and tries to effect positive long-term change in our community.
Join the IWC Charity Committee and help evaluate and monitor projects funded by the IWC. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. You may make a year long commitment to the charity committee, or you may join the Charity Committee Interest Group. Interest Group members can review proposals on an ad hoc basis, organize shopping basket donations and clothing drives, or assist with administrative details related to the work of the Charity Committee.
There are also volunteer opportunities available. Play Bingo or cook one of your favorite dishes for programs that reach out to Elderly Persons organized by the local NGO Bread of Life. Also, a group of IWC members has taken the initiative to organize visits to Zvetchanska Orphanage (for babies and toddlers). Contact information available in the monthly newsletter available to members only.
Please let us know if you have additional volunteer opportunities, particularly where fluency in Serbian is not a requirement.
What is the Shopping Basket?
The Shopping Basket which is provided at each coffee morning is a means for all the IWC members to make a small contribution each month to assist vulnerable people. A small gift of some hygiene items for instance, makes a huge difference to some elderly person whose pension may be only 80 euros per month. On your way out the door to attend the monthly coffee mornings please remember to take a bar of soap, a tube of tooth paste, shampoo or any other item which you may have in your home that could alleviate some of the suffering of the poor. You will bring a great deal of joy to someone who has nothing. Some months, particularly in September, we collect school supplies such as pencils, notebooks, etc., as the beginning of the school year is very costly for impoverished families with school-age children. In the winter months we collect hats, scarves, gloves and underwear for children living in very sub-standard living conditions. Give generously. A little goes a long way.
